Inaugural Rumor Report!!!
We meet again cyber world. This is Jay Torres here with my soon to be famous rumor report. First up we have a doozy of a rumor that I’m sure all the Nintendo fan boys wish would come true.
Nintendo of America held their annual “Camp Hyrule” event some time ago, where it has been rumored that an unnamed NOA representative let “slip” that one of his favorite upcoming DS titles was “Smash Brothers DS.” This has created a firestorm, naturally, and speculation currently runs rampant. Will the DS get some Smash Brothers love? Please keep in mind that while this news may seem exciting, it is mere speculation at the moment and readers should take this “news” with a very large grain of salt. MGH Online will keep you up to date on any developments, but don’t be shocked if this is disproven. I personally think that you are more likely to see a direct port of the N64 version if any super smash bros. game is coming to DS. My fellow bloggers say that this was an April Fools Joke, but I’ll let you decide as your guess is probably as good as theirs.
Next up on the rumor report is another Nintendo Fan Boy dream. It has been rumored that Nintendo will unveil a “new” DS model at E3 this year. Unfortunately for you hopefuls this rumor has been squashed by Nintendo of Japan’s head of PR Ken Toyota and Enterbrain. This rumor started when Hamamura-san (Head of the Japanese magazine publisher Enterbrain) supposedly let “slip” that a DS2 was to be premiered at E3 this year which would have either 3.5 or 3.8 inches compared to the 3 inch screens now.
Here is an excerpt of the conference in which Nintendo crushed everyone’s dreams: Toyota said: “We cannot comment on the specifics of what will be announced at E3, but at the very least there won’t be anything like what Mr. Hamamura suggested, so would like to clearly deny this. “We’re having a hard time understanding what kind of evidence (Hamamura) had for saying this.” And Enterbrain said: “It has been reported in the media that our president, Hirokazu Hamamura, made comments at the video game industry seminar we hosted on April 11 stating that ‘The possibility exists that an announcement will be made this summer regarding a new model of Nintendo DS.’ “However, no such statement or announcement was made by the president. “We reported at the seminar that we expect the video game market, which has a recorded all-time high in its domestic market size, to continue to further expand globally as well as domestically. “During this report, Mr. Hamamura commented that he has to ‘continue to pay attention to the direction in which the Nintendo DS is heading’ and that he has ‘great expectations again this year for E3 (the Electronic Entertainment Expo), where many new announcements regarding games are made.’ “He did not, however, make a comment about the possibility of an announcement by Nintendo concerning a new model or successor to the Nintendo DS due to its current scarce product availability caused by its worldwide popularity.” And that, as they say, is the end of that chapter.
Next up on the rumor report is something that I’ve expected to come for quite some time. Nintendo plans on releasing new colors for the Wii in Japan sometime soon. It is expected that these colors are going to be black, lime green, candy apple red, silver, and of course standard white. Think I’m done with my rumors? No, sir I’ve only just begun. Next up is a slew of wii rumors.
First up on the wii rumors is a new Mickey Mouse platform game. The latest issue of EGM magazine speculates that famed game designer Warren Spector is working on a platform game. It’s said to feature Mickey Mouse as its main character, and is being claimed as a ‘Mario beater’. Of course the chances of it actually doing that are slim to none, but it still sounds good. Now if we can only get Mickey’s Magical Quest on Virtual Console.
This next Wii rumor is sure to light your fire. In a recent Famitsu interview with Sakurai (producer of Super Smash Bros Brawl), he revealed that new elements may become available for download through the WiiWare service. Speculation says these things could include new characters, stickers, or even stages. That lit your fire right? Told you it would.
Moving right along I’ve scrambled up a recent rumor about Mega Man. According to reports, a so-called retailer list directly from Capcom listed a new Action RPG game on Wii called “Mega Man Scramble Battle”. Said to release sometime between Q3 2008 and Q1 2009, could this be Mega Man’s first outing on Wii?
I’ve saved one of my best rumors for last. According to reports, a Nintendo executive accidentally let slip that the Wii graphics processor (GPU) is actually capable of doing full HD. Although Nintendo aren’t interested in pursuing HD at the moment, if this is true perhaps the Wii will see hi-def games in a few years when HD has a stronger user base.
This is the end of my rumor report. If you like what you see be sure to check out the site often as I am researching new rumor leads as I type. Leave us a comment and show us some love. I hope you’ll write us soon.
