Firmware 2.40 Brings Welcome Changes to PS3
Sony will be finally adding XMB access in-game. This means you can message people on your friends list to join a game you’re in, or play music off your hard drive, or do a google search. All while in-game. These changes will make the PS3 a much more socially friendly experience. It also looks like Sony will be hopping on the achievement train and will adding in “trophies” along with this firmware update as well. Trophies work much like achievements do on the popular Xbox 360 Live system. They let the player try different ways of playing the game or simply provide bragging rights for higher gamerscores.
And the Heavens Shall Tremble
So Blizzard finally let the cat out of the bag and as most people predicted, it is the third iteration of the Diablo series, Diablo 3. A lot of info about the game has been released. Yet there are still a bunch of details Blizzard hasn’t revealed yet to keep the game in the news. You can check out everything, even the whole story of Diablo if you missed playing both previous games at Blizzard’s Official Site.

Megaman 9 on Wiiware, PSN, AND XBLA
Capcom recently announced that they will be releasing Megaman 9 for all three consoles via their individual download service. That means it will be the first game to be released on the Playstation Network, Xbox Live Arcade, and WiiWare download services.
The game is going to return to its 2D graphics and sprites, which is what a lot of people have been hoping for. More details will be released at E3 this July.
Guitar Hero + World of Warcraft = AWESOME
Looks like Blizzard and Activision are taking advantage of the recent merger and managed to put a free Guitar Hero 3 song based on World of Warcraft. Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftain or better know as LVL70ETC’s song “I Am Murloc” will be playable as a free downloadable song for both the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Guitar Hero 3 on June 26.
Gyrostarr Released on WiiWare
These type of games really intrigue me cause they can be so addictive to play and yet so simple. I’ll probably pick this game up later this week and check it out. It supports up to four players and has 50 tracks to play on. It’s developed by High Voltage so it should be a pretty fun game.
Got Sick of Call of Duty Yet?
Well I have. Too bad Activision hasn’t yet. A trailer debuted yesterday for the game on the Xbox Live Marketplace. It also looks like Treyarch will be developing the game this time around. Don’t expect a modern shooter. In World at War, the game goes back to its roots and is set in WWII (apparently in the Pacific theater). The same engine used by Infinity Ward’s version of COD4 will be used again in this game. Man, Activision is turning into the new EA (if it hasn’t already). Stop killing franchises with endless and worthless sequels!
Joystiq Checks Out Guitar Hero: World Tour
This game is going to be pretty big. Activision and Red Octane want this game to replace Rock Band. The recording studio feature is one of the main upgrades that the rhythm game fanatics are looking forward to. Add the fact that Nintendo Wii will have all of the same features PS3 and Xbox 360 (including being able to play directly from an SD card) and you’re looking at a great addition to the genre.
MGS4 First Impressions
So MGS4 came out June 12th. You can blame my lack of posts to its release and a bunch of real life events (new job)! Drew (future blogger) and I decided to go to the release signing in NYC at the Virgin Megastore in Times’ Square. It was pretty crazy to say the least. Big time props to the guys standing behind us. You guys were awesome. Unfortunately, me made it there about an hour too late because around 2:00 am, a four hour wait (we got there at 10 pm), Kojima left the premises. Needless to say, we missed our once-in-a-lifetime chance to get a signature on our copies of MGS4. However, we did manage to grab a copy that night and waited at Penn station for four hours for the next train back home. Exhausted we only managed to play the game for a couple of hours before our eyes shut down on us. Drew and I have played the game for countless hours now, offline and online. Drew has already beaten the game. I’m restricted to playing the game at his house while I accrue the money to actually buy my own PS3. The good amount I did play really stood out to me. More after the break.
WotLK to Have New Achievement System

Looks like Blizzard will be taking a page out of Valve’s and XBL’s book and adding an achievement system to the game. It’s not surprising that Blizzard would want to add a system like this. It keeps gamers playing the your game. Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning already has this system setup in their game as “the Tome of Knowledge” where your achievements are written down, exclusively for your character.
The WoW achievements tab is already active apparently in the alpha. As to what the achievement points get you, no one knows yet. It could be another way for Blizzard to gear you up or just a way for Blizzard to put alternate cosmetic changes into the game smoothly. Honestly, I’m excited about just having achievements, it just another way to show off your e-peen. If the rumor is true, I think its a very smart move on Blizzard’s part to get more people playing the game.
