Despite no official word from Nintendo, IGN has reported that according to many sources close to Nintendo, the newest iteration of the DS is set to hit the states sometime in April. Japanese audiences have been enjoying the Nintendo DSi since November and if the sales in Japan are any indication, there should be no reason the console won’t succeed overseas.

The report states that Nintendo will release the Nintendo DSi stateside on April 4 at hefty $179.99 price tag, compared to the DS Lite’s $129.99. Nintendo of America’s Reggie Fils-Aime has stated before that the DSi won’t come over to the US until the demand for DS Lites has been satisfied. Could it be that DS sales are starting to peak over?

Personally, I’m not impressed with the updates Nintendo decided to put into its hit portable game system. Thinner build, two cameras, built-in memory, a fifth brightness setting and upgradable firmware do not offset the problems that these upgrades cause. Lower battery life, lack of GBA slot, region-locked, and a slower processor are definitely not worth it. Hopefully, homebrew on the internal storage can actually make the system at least somewhat worthwhile.
