Chrono Trigger DS tries to end piracy, but the Pirates… they are too strong!

November 21, 2008 at 10:44 am (Nintendo Company Ltd., Nintendo DS) (, , )

Square Enix deployed a few methods in the game to try to prevent piracy of the ROM of this classic game.  The company claims to be vehemently against piracy and will try to fight the problem as much as possible.  The specific anti-piracy fix for this game happens when Chrono decides to go into the time portal or not, and the game’s script freezes the game.  Even if you get lucky to get through this part, there is another freezing part around the time you get Frog in your party.

Square has done this before in Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicals, which made a freeze screen (promptly named by pirates as the “Moogles of Death“) and coders quickly created a fix for this within days of the ROM release!  Score 1 for Pirates… Nice try Square Enix

Here comes round two!  Square Enix deploys not only 1 fix, but multiple fixes in the game!  Yet, coders were able to crack the fixes within hours of the release of the ROM!  Score 2 Pirates, Try again Square.

I’m fairly sure that this fight against piracy is far from over, but as a subsidation for actually buying the game, Square enix is giving a few hundred copies of the game’s soundtrack with the purchase of a hard copy of the game in Japan.  Sometimes it’s worth not sailing on the boat of eyepatched keyboard heroes.

STILL don’t have a DS? There’s a new color coming to the US!

September 2, 2008 at 8:04 pm (Announcement, Nintendo Company Ltd., Nintendo DS) ()

If you’re one of the many (AHEM, Nautilus) who doesn’t own a DS, your wait might be worth the shiny new silver colored DS coming to the states on Sept. 7th, which is just a few days away!  This would add to the great list of DS colors including the original white, black, black and red combo (which i have), black and blue combo, navy blue, pink, metallic rose, and not to mention the limited edition DSes.

Man those are a lot of colors to choose from, and adding this color to the mix makes me feel like I’m at at ice cream store… and I want a scoop of pretty much all of the flavors.

Actually, I REALLY like the SOLID RED one… but that’s for japan only.  Booooo :(

It’s a Wiimote! It’s Candy! It’s BOTH!

July 7, 2008 at 11:38 am (For The Lulz, Nintendo Wii) (, )

Apparently, this wiimote candy dispenser looks EXACTLY like the actually Nintendo Wiimote, but  instead of a transmitter on the front, there’s an outlet for the candy to shoot out.  It also instructs consumers not to aim the wiimote at the face, which is downright lulzy!

I lol’d. I want candy, bubblegum and taffy.

The first step to Smash Bros. DS: “Smash Bros. RUMBLE”

July 5, 2008 at 7:24 pm (Nintendo DS) (, , )

This video is a demo of a homebrew game based off of the Super Smash Bros. series, and so far it looks like it’s shaping up pretty nicely!  A young German programmer by the name of Fuzzy has lots in store for this homebrew, including wi-fi support, it seems.  The video shows only solo mode, but much of it looks like Brawl and looks to show some promise in the future.  I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for this homebrew when it comes out for more testing!

Release date set for Dragon Quest IV, Dragon Quest V, and VI revealed for DS

May 21, 2008 at 6:51 pm (Announcement, Nintendo DS, Uncategorized) (, , )

Ohhhh boy, my girlfriend has been waiting for news like this for a loooooong time!

Dragon Quest IV has released it’s official website and not much is told on the site about the game… except it’s release date! DQIV is due to be on shelves on September 16th, but along with this website are links to two other Dragon Quest games that are hinted to come soon. This website shows that the US will be graced with Dragon Quests IV, V and VI, and the latter two have pending release dates. I know someone who’s gonna LOVE this!

Konami’s Rock Revolution comes along to join the fray

May 17, 2008 at 9:23 pm (Announcement) (, )

First there was Rock Band, then comes Guitar Hero 4, and now Konami’s “Rock Revolution” steps in to join the genre of full band games! Sure, many will think that this is just another clone, but this is from Konami, makers of countless music games like DDR, Gutiar Freaks, Beatmania, and so many more. One of the most noteworthy aspects of this game are the drums. It’s like Guitar Hero 4, and has 6 active buttons: 6 face pads and the bass drum pedal. In my eyes, this seems to be a step forward, yet a step back in the drum design. It seems to be that the large circle in the middle is the snare, the triangles refer to hi-hats and cymbals, and the smaller rounded pads are toms. Sure everything a drum set would normally have is accounted for, but for Konami, I would’ve expected a home version of their own drumming game, DrumMania.

A few other noteworthy things about the drum is that there is an option to turn OFF the foot pedal until higher difficulties, which may be a great feature for those who have the ultimate struggle of using the pedal along with their hands. Another great feature is that in this game, adding freestyle drum beats is not penalized, unlike Rock Band. I assume this is like DDR or Taiko no Tatsjin where performance isn’t based on IF you hit the note, but how accurately on beat you hit each note.

One final note is about the guitar accessories, which look similar to Guitar Hero 3’s Les Paul, but has a different color scheme. I’ll definitely be watching the progress on Konami’s new project (set to release in October), and perhaps try to get a try of my own in the future!

[EDIT]

I just found a bunch of songs that will be in the game, here you go!

“Sk8er Boi” – Avril Lavigne
“All the Small Things” – Blink 182
“Highway Star” – Deep Purple
“Pull Me Under” – Dream Theater
“Paralyzer” – Finger Eleven
“Magic Man” – Heart
“Pain” – Jimmy Eat World
“Bad Reputation” – Joan Jett
“Dr. Feelgood” – Mötley Crüe
“Cum on Feel the Noize” – Quiet Riot
“Walk” – Pantera
“Round and Round” – Ratt
“Dirty Little Secret” – The All-American Rejects
“Somebody Told Me” – The Killers
“We’re Not Gonna Take It” – Twisted Sister
“Joker & The Thief” – Wolfmother

Metal Slug 7 for the DS looks to be intense!

May 17, 2008 at 10:38 am (Nintendo DS) (, )

This trailer for Metal Slug 7 shows everything you’d want in a 2d side scrolling shooter: huge bullets, gratuitous explosions, and masses and masses of enemies to fight! The introduction of the new super vehicles looks like a pure adrenaline rush! By the end of the video it looks like a giant robot battle, and I can’t wait to get a stab at this game.
